2020 Ford Edge Redesign, Specs & Configurations
2020 Ford Edge Redesign, Specs & Configurations | The Ford Edge, after three years from its launch, has updated, going slightly to its aesthetic appearance and increasing its contents for what is, in fact, the Oval flagship SUV.
The Ford Edge has not changed much compared to its launch dating back to 2016. Moreover, we are talking about an SUV that, until now, has fully respected the role that had been assigned. Not a car of large volumes (for that there are Ecosport and Kuga, which cover only 97% of sales), but of representation. A sort of flagship that, as such, could be the standard-bearer of Ford technology for a very important segment of the market, waiting to see its solutions also declined on the other ranges of the house (although some novelties have debuted earlier on another symbol of the house as the Focus).
2020 Ford Edge Redesign
The new Ford Edge has significantly changed its exterior style to get closer to the family feeling of the rest of the production of the house. The grille and the bumper, in particular, have been updated in this sense, while the light clusters have evolved above all from a technical point of view, adopting the standard LED lights both on the main headlights and on the fog lights. The most radical change actually took place on the rear lights. Taking a surprisingly unfavorable direction to the market, the Edge abandoned the light bar that joined the two headlights, preferring a style if we want more traditional. Even the exhaust terminals have been updated, making them a little more evident and stylistically more appealing.
2020 Ford Edge Interior
The interior should be considered depending on the change chosen for the car. In fact, with the adoption of the 8 -point E-Shifter, the designers of the house were able to work more deeply on the distribution of space, giving more space to the occupants. Not needing a lever, but simply a ring, plus the automatic electronic handbrake, the Ford Edge features a much larger central tunnel for storing our personal belongings. There is even room for the wireless smartphone charger, standard with this transmission. The infotainment system remained the same, with the Ford Sync 3 software shown on an 8-inch diagonal display ( Apple CarPlay is also installed and Android Auto ).
The audio sector has improved thanks to the adoption of the special 1,000 watts Bang & Olufsen system. The materials are obviously of the premium segment, with leather upholstery to be the master of the entire environment. Soft-touch surfaces are pleasant to the touch and sight complete the indoor environment. Also worthy of note is the huge glass sunroof, with the incredibly large opening fraction.
The Configurations are always the classic three: Titanium, ST Line, and Vignale.
2020 Ford Edge Performance
The Ford Edge is enormous from many points of view. Certainly in terms of size, but its weight and its dynamics are immediately perceptible as soon as you start driving. There are two engines available: the Ecoblue 2.000 basic 190 hp with manual transmission and, finally, the 238 hp Ecoblue biturbo with the automatic, the latter protagonist of our last pre-launch test. Needless to emphasize that the Edge is a car that wants to focus first of all on comfort. Being very heavy and voluminous, it will never surprise you with its qualities of shooting and alertness, but with those of strength. In fact, the biturbo does not lose a stroke and the E-Shifter, even when going uphill it’s really very well calibrated.
It could be more grueling when overtaking and in fact, in those moments we were happy to be able to count on the sequential paddle at the wheel, so you can keep up the laps and be able to make the right overtaking on the narrow streets. Among other things, as the Ford philosophy wants, this SUV is loaded with every wealth from the standpoint of autonomous driving. We find the Stop & Go associated with adaptive cruise control, which allows you to experience the queues in traffic with less stress, while the active lane control and the traffic sign detector help us to always keep under control the road situation.
We obviously preferred not to try them, but also with regard to the anti-collision systems, the Edge equipment it is very rich. These systems include post-collision braking in the event of an accident and assistance with emergency steering. All this without forgetting the more “classic” systems such as emergency braking.
Moreover, the Edge is literally covered with sensors and thanks to the software update, the Ford Intelligent AWD is even able to automatically adapt to road conditions (there are sensors even in the windscreen wipers that make the computer “understand” that the asphalt could be slippery). The ideal traction can be provided by the brain of the system in just 10 milliseconds, greatly increasing the safety and maneuverability of the Edge(helped in this sense by a set of suspension perfectly calibrated). With such considerable dimensions, it was almost an obligation.
